Why Collectors keep coming back
In the back seat of a car, somewhere on a long drive, his grandmother turned her profile toward the front seat and held still. A six-year-old with a pencil inhand and an envelope for sketchpad, studied her face - the line of her jaw, the curve of her ear, the way her hair sat - and drew what he saw. Before he handed it to her, he already knew. He could do this. He has never stopped.
George paints in sunlight because that's where he has always lived - and sunlight, he has learned, is where color tells the truth. He works in watercolor, though most people don't believe it. The paintings have a presence, a weight, a depth that doesn't match what people think watercolor can do. That surprise is part of it. So is the light.
If you've stood in a place and thought - I want to hold onto this - George's work is for you. His collectors come back, again and again, because the paintings take them somewhere.. Sometimes it's a place they've benn. Sometimes it's a place they've only dreamed of. And sometimes, on days when the world feels heavy and they can go anywhere at all, they walk past a painting on their wall and find themselves, for a moment, in the light.

That's what I'm painting toward. Not a landscape. Not a ski run. Not a cafe in Rome. A place where two people can go together, without leaving the room.
